Video: Women and Addiction

Wednesday, September 23rd, 2009

Alcohol can take control of anyone, regardless of their age, race, culture, upbringing or income. If you were to strip away all of these factors, it can be said that every person with a drink problem fundamentally suffers from the same disease.

The following video highlights this point and emphasises the effects that alcohol can have upon women in particular, as pound for pound a woman reacts to alcohol more than a man.

The video follows a number of women who openly discuss how they began drinking alcohol and at what point this developed into a problem. It is proposed that alcoholism may be genetically linked and the risks of contracting the disorder increase dramatically if family members from previous generations have battled with the disorder. Some of the women express their belief that their personality type and curiosity has played a part in leading to addiction.

Both men and women will be able to relate to the personal stories told in this video and the control an addiction can have over a person.
