Our teenage ‘Time Bombs’

Posted by George Williams on Wednesday, August 27th, 2008

The Daily Mail ran a story yesterday about how the current generation of teenagers have become ‘health time bombs’ because of their binge-drinking, smoking, drug use and under-age sex. Admissions to hospital for treatment of alcohol, cigarette and drug use have soared; STIs and abortion cases have also rocketed.

To top it all, almost a third of children start their teenage years obese…why is this happening? Society is breaking down, the family unit is now rare, teenagers turn to gangs instead of their families… everyone wants the celeb life and the superficiality this brings. Hopefully young people today can be guided to look at our young Olympic champions who have recently reaped the rewards of many years’ hard work. Teenagers need structure and purpose in their lives otherwise the teenage toxic time bomb will only get worse.
