The Inevitable Mistakes When Ignoring Mental Health

Thursday, November 20th, 2008 The Inevitable Mistakes When Ignoring Mental Health

Hindsight as we all know is better than foresight. Though for a struggling family, a young mother not coping and two little infants, tragedy was just around the coroner.

A very worrying situation as social services closed file on the mother who is accused of killing her children (Telegraph-Nick Britten 14 11 08).

21 year old Jael Mullings had been suffering from mental health issues and had previously left her two year old son at both a hospital and a doctors surgery.

When her second child was born her social workers deemed her fit to look after the children with the support other agencies.

Jael has now been held under the mental health act. Time and time again we hear these awful stories, but very real people with very real lives are being thrown into the mire. So called experts are failing vulnerable members of society.

A full investigation, carried out by the Manchester Safeguarding Children’s Board, into why the decision was taken to close her file and cease regular contact with the family is under way.

Also in question is why police officers took over one hour to respond to calls concerning the mothers behaviour.
