It has been established by a US team that obesity and lack of fitness raise the risk of illness by impacting negatively on the body’s internal chemistry. The organisation found that levels of white blood cells were highest in overweight men.

White blood cells are imperative when it comes to fighting infection. Tests were carried out on 452 healthy men over a long period of time. Regular blood samples were taken and analysed. The conclusion of the report suggested that white blood cell were lowest in the men who were most physically fit.
