The Herb Of Happiness - St John’s Wort

Thursday, October 9th, 2008 The Herb Of Happiness - St John’s Wort

It has been established that over 2 million Britons take St John’s Wort whether in a capsule, liquid or tea.

It has long been a happy alternative for those reluctant to pop pills for depression, With reference to Daniel Martin’s report in the Daily Mail (08 10 08).

In what is billed as the most thorough study of the plant, scientists have found it is just as effective as Prozac at treating depression. It is also argued that there are less side effects compared to any other standard drug used.

Medical practices in Germany are comfortable in issuing the herb to its children and teenagers.

Experts do not know exactly how the plant lifts depression, although most believe it probably works by keeping the chemical serotonin, which is linked to positive moods, in the brain for longer.
