Extreme Measures

Friday, October 10th, 2008 Extreme Measures

The Daily Telegraph (Martin Beckford 04 10 08) reported Dangerously overweight children should be taken away from their homes and given radical weight-loss surgery, a health expert will urge next week.

Overfed children should be treated as victims of abuse, as are undernourished children according to Tam Fry a member of the National Obesity Forum’s board.

He will argue that authorities should take obese children away from their families and into care, and that those whose health is at risk should then undergo stomach-stapling operations. Parents should be allowed to visit their children but be frisked first ensuring no food is being brought into the hospital.

Statistically, it has been suggested that a third of 13-year-olds are obese or overweight, and it is predicted that a million children in England will be obese within five years.
