Video: Gail’s Story - Living With the Reality of Loss

Monday, February 28th, 2011

Gail Pitts lost her son Nick three years ago, he died after a party to celebrate qualifying to teach English in Thailand, two weeks before he was due to leave, he was 28.

Nick was a reformed recreational user who had stopped using for some time until that night when a cocktail of drugs including heroin ended his life.
After his death Gail got involved with DrugFAM after reading Elizabeth Burton-Phillips’ book ‘Mum can you lend me twenty quid’ and discovered that Nick had met Elizabeth at one of her presentations and included one of his letters in the book.

She subsequently joined DrugFAM as a volunteer going on to join Elizabeth on the platform sharing her story with others bereaved by addiction in the UK and abroad, encouraging them to talk about their loved ones and keep their memory alive
