Brendan talks about addiction as a condition that affects all the family, and how tackling it as a family with the help of a support group that can provide education, advice and counselling is the most effective way of beating addiction; as long as the addicted person wants to stop.

“Families with addiction problems want answers, most of all they want to be told how to stop their addicted loved one from drinking or taking drugs. Or to be able to pick up the phone and make something happen, not realising that the authorities can only act under mental health legislation if someone poses a danger to others, but most of all, that their addicted other has to want to stop, and unless they do, not even a gun to the head would stop them”.

The St. James Priory Project supports people with a history of homelessness who have a substance dependency, providing residential rehab Treatment, dual diagnosis, supported housing and a families and carers programme.

Walsingham House is a first stage abstinence based residential facility based on the 12 Step philosophy and acceptance of the goal of complete abstinence. It focuses on clients from chaotic background beyond homelessness, including physical health, mental health and criminal justice problems, providing an intensive, structured and nurturing environment that empowers them to recover from their addiction.
