Video: “I Thought I Was In Control” Martin’s Story of Confronting his Alcoholism
Friday, January 21st, 2011
Today Martin is sober, doing amazing work for children as a volunteer at NACOA the National Association for Children of Alcoholics, and is reunited with his children.
What began as a bit of drink problem took him on a journey through addiction, from a happy family life and a good job, through years of alcoholism, hospitalisations and repeated relapse.
Believing he was in control of his addiction, he never believed he had a problem with alcohol until he tried to give up. Martin’s life spiralled out of control after suffering a seizure from withdrawal. He turned his life around after finding recovery through various organisations in Bristol including South Gloucestershire Drug and Alcohol Services and St James Priory Project, as well attending AA meetings.
